William's primary instrument is the Scottish Harp or Clarsach, which he also teaches. He also plays wire strung harp, flute, tin whistle, uillean pipes, Irish bouzouki, and piano.

In addition to performing, William has gained a substantial reputation as a composer, director, arranger, & producer in the Celtic music industry.

His talented skills are featured in the "Battle of the Clans" for The History Channel, the movie soundtrack for "Braveheart" starring Mel Gibson,  and the movie soundtrack for  "A Shot at Glory" starring Robert Duvall & Micheal Keaton.

His numerous accomplishments also include the Song for Scotland competiton in 1999 which was organized to find an anthem for the new era in Scotland. His "Land of Light" composition was announced the winner. The song was performed at Edinburgh Castle in a special performance to mark the 100th birthday of the Queen Mother, and also featured in the 50th Anniversary of the Edinburgh Tattoo.
